On Sunday November 4, 2007 I will run the NYC Marathon in honor of my Mom. In February 2007 my Mom "Rosie" was diagnosed with Carcinoid, after 2 years of searching for an answer to her flushing and other symptoms. I had never heard of Carcinoid cancer. I soon learn that it is a rare, deadly neuroendocrine cancer. Since Carcinoid tumors grow more slowly compared to other cancers, it usually takes many years before they become sizable or cause symptoms. Presently there is no known cure.
After meeting with many doctors and doing my own research on the web, I came across "CCAN" Carcinoid Cancer Awareness Network. With so many questions in my mind and a feeling of helplessness, I called this network and spoke to Maryann. Maryann is compassionate, knowledgeable and determined to help with the cause for Carcinoid Cancer. She provided me with guidance and "awareness" that I could not find elsewhere.
